Haverfordwest County welcome fellow JD Cymru Premier side Bala Town to the Ogi Bridge Meadow on Saturday (October 16) in the fourth round of the JD Welsh Cup.

The Bluebirds will be looking to bounce back from the defeat to Penybont on Tuesday night, a result which brought an end to their five-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Tomorrow’s visitors have made an impressive start to the season. Their dramatic late defeat to leaders The New Saints on Tuesday evening, when they led 1-0 until the 82nd minute but eventually lost 2-1 with Ryan Brobbel scoring with the last kick of the game, was their first loss of the domestic season.

Wayne Jones’ side have so far seen off Brecon Corries (6-0) and Airbus UK Broughton (2-1) in the competition, while the north Walians have recorded convincing victories over Brymbo (17-1) and Pontypridd Town (5-0).

The two sides last met at the beginning of September, when the Lakesiders ran out comfortable 6-2 winners on JD Cymru Premier Matchday 5, with Ben Fawcett and Kieran Lewis finding the net in defeat for the Bluebirds.

County played Bala at this stage of the competition back in the 2018-19 season, when the match finished 0-0 after normal time before the Maes Tegid outfit scored four goals in extra time to run out eventual winners.

The previous meeting between the teams at the Ogi Bridge Meadow was the 1-1 draw in October 2020, when Will Evans’ goal in the 81st minute was cancelled out one minute from time by Jack Wilson, as the sides shared the points.

Should the Bluebirds be victorious tomorrow, it would be the first time they have reached the quarter-final stage since the 2012-13 campaign, when they were narrowly edged out 1-0 by The New Saints.
