A spirited performance earned the Bluebirds their first point of the season away at a tough Cardiff Met side.

A mild evening saw the boys take a trip to the capital to face last season’s 7th place side. Debutants Kieran Lewis and Cameron Keetch were included in the starting line up whilst Corey Shephard made his first appearance for the club off the bench in the second half.

It was a fast-paced start in Cyncoed with Met having a lot of the ball early on. However, the well organised back 5 of Cameron Keetch, Ricky Watts, Sean Pemberton, Scott Tancock and Alaric Jones were well organised and there were very few chances for the home side.

The first chance of the game came from a Bluebirds break with Danny Williams volleying straight into the arms of Met goalkeeper Alex Lang. Despite not enjoying much possession early on, the second chance of the game also fell to Danny Williams when Cameron Keetch threw the ball in from the left hand side, but Williams’ volley flashed wide.

Then, 10 minutes before half time, Steve Hall pulled off the save of the game; Warwick raced through on goal, and pulled of a cheeky flick from just inside the box that was smartly saved by the County number 1. From this, the Bluebirds had the chance of the game as the ball was distributed quickly and Marcus Griffiths found himself through on goal with no defenders in sight, but his shot was dragged wide.

Cardiff Met came out fighting in the second half and a bullet header rattled the crossbar in the 49th minute. Shortly after, Met hit the bar again with a looping header as they put the pressure on.

Just after the hour mark, Corey Shephard made his Cymru Premier debut alongside Jack Wilson. Wilson’s pace immediately caused problems for the Met defence and he had a few chances of his own, notably a volley that flashed narrowly over the bar.

The game began to fizzle out in the final 5 minutes with both sides seemingly settling for the point available. A great effort from the boys and a well-earned point, on to Newtown!
