Ben Fawcett scored a brace for the second time in a week as Haverfordwest County netted six goals to ease past Brecon Corries and into the third round of the JD Welsh Cup.

The Bluebirds were in total command throughout the game at the Ogi Bridge Meadow, with Jack Wilson, Mason Jones-Thomas, Danny Williams and Kieran Lewis joining Fawcett on the scoresheet.

It was a professional performance from Wayne Jones’ men, who stuck to their task for the entirety of the match against a Corries side who deserve credit for never giving up on a tough afternoon.

Wilson opened the scoring after 25 minutes when he fired into the bottom left corner from just inside the area, displaying his predatory instinct to give County the lead.

Striker Fawcett doubled the Bluebirds’ advantage three minutes before half-time when he controlled a cross from the right, turned and fired past goalkeeper Declan Gaydon from close range.

Just a minute a later, the Bluebirds were three goals to the good when winger Jones-Thomas capitalised on a defensive mix-up from the visitors to roll the ball into an empty net.

The visitors from Powys offered stern resistance in the opening 20 minutes of the second-half, but they were unable to deny Williams – in his first game since returning to the club on loan – from heading in at the back post for the Bluebirds’ fourth goal of the afternoon.

Substitute Lewis, who replaced the impressive Alhagi Touray Sisay just before the hour mark, scored the fifth goal of the afternoon when he was picked out by Williams and made no mistake from inside the area.

Fawcett netted his brace to round off the scoring with a powerful driven effort from just inside the area which gave opposition keeper Gaydon no chance.
