CAMBRIAN & CLYDACH 1 HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY 2
( JD Cymru South round 7)
Even at this early stage of the season this was an important game for both sides and from the off it ebbed and flowed with the quality football initially coming from the home team. However, Wolvesy’s pre-match tactics had to be adjusted in order for his side to get competitive as the first half progressed. Probably against the run of play, the Bluebirds opened the scoring in the 17th minute when good work on the right and an excellent cross by Ben Fawcett found KURTIS REES at the far post and the very busy midfielder finished neatly. To be fair, the home team should have been in front at this juncture but Steve Hall had denied them with two excellent saves in the first 10 minutes During this time of the home team’s dominance, ironically it was the Blues who had found the back of the net only for Marcus Griffiths’s effort to be ruled out.
As the half progressed the possession was equally shared but on 37 minutes a perfect through ball sliced through the Blues defence forcing Steve Hall to intercept. Unfortunately, whilst clearing the danger, he brought down the Cambrian player and LIAM EDWARDS made no mistake from the spot.
Sam Rodon was replaced at half time by Nicky Palmer and the formation changed to 4-3-3. During the 2nd half there was little to choose between both sides though the bulk of scoring chances seemed to come the way of the home side. However, a Kurtis Rees glancing header went extremely close and substitute Tim Hicks also went very close with his header. Miles John replaced Harri Rowe on 67 minutes and his presence seemed to create more opportunities down the right. In the last 10 minutes Cambrian & Clydach created several clear cut chances but last ditch defending by the Blues foiled these attempts. It was as late as the 92nd that, following a Ben Fawcett corner, SEAN PEMBERTON found the back of the net with a perfect header securing all 3points for his side and a top of the table spot.
